Some yards just need a reset. The front lawn was patchy and tired, the flower beds had lost their shape, and the side yard had zero privacy from the neighbours. It's the kind of slow decline that sneaks up on you - and once you notice it, you can't stop noticing it.
We tackled this one from multiple angles. On the front, we stripped out the old bed material using a track skid steer to get a clean slate, then brought in fresh dark decorative gravel and replanted the beds with new shrubs and flowering plants. The curved bed edge against the concrete gives the whole front of the house a much sharper, more intentional look. It's a small detail that makes a big difference from the street.
Around the side yard, we installed new sod and brought in tall privacy shrubs along the fence line. That combination does two things at once - it gives the yard usable green space and it blocks sightlines from the neighbouring property. The sprinkler heads are already in place to keep that new sod healthy and established.
What makes this kind of work hold up long-term is the prep. Gravel beds that are done right - with proper base prep and good plant placement - stay low maintenance and keep looking clean. Same goes for sod. Skip the prep steps and you end up with dead patches and settling issues down the road. We don't cut corners on either.
The finished result is exactly what this home needed. Clean beds out front, green grass on the side, and enough privacy to actually enjoy the yard. It all works together because we planned it that way from the start.
