Side yards are one of those spaces that just get ignored. Too narrow for entertaining, too awkward to landscape, so most homeowners let them turn into a muddy mess the dogs track through the house. We see it all the time - and it's one of our favorite problems to solve.

This one got a clean artificial turf installation that fits the space perfectly. The turf runs wall to fence, giving the dogs a soft, usable surface without the mud, dead grass, or worn-out patches you'd normally deal with in a high-traffic pet area. The gravel border along the perimeter ties everything together and keeps it looking intentional rather than thrown together.

What we love about using artificial turf for pet areas is how practical it actually is day-to-day. No watering. No mowing. No reseeding the spots the dogs have destroyed. Cleanup is straightforward, and the surface stays looking sharp regardless of how much use it gets.

The combination of turf and gravel here is a solid approach for side yards specifically. The gravel handles the transition zones and drainage naturally, while the turf gives the dogs somewhere comfortable to run and hang out. It's a pairing we use a lot - and for good reason. It holds up, it looks good, and it makes the space genuinely functional.

Not every yard needs a full redesign to be worth using. Sometimes it's just about taking a space that's been sitting idle and making it work for the way you actually live - and the pets who live there with you.
